MACHAME ROUTE CLIMB + OPTIONAL AFRICAN SAFARI : Camping Climb- (Tenting and Lodging on Safari)

  Day 1/2

Arrive in Amsterdam early on the morning of Dec27. Overnight in hotel. Rest and get over jet-lag.

  Day 3

Transfer in Amsterdam to flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. We will meet in the arrival area at Kilimanjaro where our vehicle transfers us to the Keys Hotel in Moshi where rooms on a dinner/bed, breakfast basis is booked for you. The Keys Hotel is moderate by South African standards, but by far the best hotel in Moshi! It has a pool, hot water, good sized rooms with en-suite bathrooms, excellent pub, restaurant and patio areas.

  Day 4

Free morning to relax, stroll around Moshi and explore a bit. Group meeting in the afternoon. Pack personal gear into duffel bag that should not exceed 12kg. Your bag is carried by a porter so please be careful not to over pack.  Leave another bag with travel and safari clothes, etc. at the hotel in storage. Dinner / overnight at Keys Hotel.

  Day 5

After breakfast we'll transfer to the Machame Park Gate. After registering with the park authority, we'll begin our climb through the lush forest. We'll continue on to some heath land before reaching our overnight camp at Machame Camp (10,000 feet, 6-7 hours of walking).

  Day 6

Today's segment of the ascent will continue across beautiful heath land and alpine moorland with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro Peak. We'll overnight at Shira Camp (12,500 feet, 6-7 hours of walking).

Day 7  We'll draw nearer the peak as we pass the Lava Tower. The trek becomes a bit more strenuous as the trail steepens on the approach to our overnight stop at Barranco Camp (13,800 feet, 5-6 hours of walking).
  Day  8

From Barranco camp, famous for its' giant groundsels (Senecio species), you ascend the Barranco wall and hike glacial valleys to Karanga camp. Today is a relatively short day hiking and lunch is taken at Karanga camp. In the afternoon a walk can be taken with your guides for great views of the Southern walls of Kibo and deep glacial valleys.

  Day 9

Today is another half day ascending to Barafu camp. Once again lunch is taken in camp allowing plenty of time to relax before the summit bid. Desolate alpine desert and at times strong winds rip over this camp and yet in the evening splendid views of Mawenzi peak are the norm. A relatively early dinner is taken before heading to rest for the evening.

  Day 10

Most people depart just before midnight for the final summit bid. Patience and persistence is the name of game to reach the summit and by dawn as the first rays of light start to appear, most arrive near the rim. Ascending via Stella Point affords a relatively short final section to Uhuru peak, the Roof of Africa! What goes up must come down and your goal today is to reach Mweka camp.

Day 11 After breakfast you descend once again through montane forest and around mid day after saying farewell to your crew, you are picked up and transfer back to the Keys Hotel for hot shower, dinner and a warm bed
Day 12 Travel to Lake Manyara, picnic lunch, game drive. Drive to Ngorongoro. Overnight at the beautiful Sopa Lodge..
