                                        AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

Hello friends of Freaks in the Peaks!    Our bags are packed and ready to go, we're standing here outside the door, we're leaving on a jet plane....la..la..la..la.......

On September 21 Tim and the MT. AMA DABLAM CLIMBING AND TREKKING TEAM will be making their way to Nepal to commence the 30 day climb to the top of Mt. Ama Dablam's summit of 6856m. Following them will be a team of trekkers who will participate in the PUJA CEREMONY rituals and  experience life on a major Himalayan mountaineering expedition.

After their successful acclimatization check and pre-expedition celebrations, the trek team will part from the climbing team and continue onward and upward to their own summit quest - Mt. Kala Pattar summit of 6000m via a non-technical trail to the top. The next day they will push on to their ultimate grunt - Mt. Everest Base Camp.

The expedition dispatch page is now available the climb. We invite you to check in to learn about the team, the route and the stories that will be updated on a regular basis by satellite phone from the mountainside.  DISPATCHES

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES EXPEDITION- Nepal  - Becky and a team of women desperate for adventure are embarking on an adventure of a lifetime. They will explore the best of Nepal "in style" starting with a flight over the expeditions base camp, tipping the aircraft wings over the climbing team wishing them good luck, followed by a mountain bike trip through the Kathmandu Valley, some fine dinning, meditation, monastery tours, shopping and much more prior to making their way up to the Annapurna mountain range for a 3- day mountain trek followed by a canoe trip on Phewa Lake and ending up at the put in point for a whitewater raft trip down the Trisuli river (class 3+ 4). They will camp on the river banks arriving by raft at the Chitwan Jungle. Here they are met by elephants for a 2- day jungle safari and later return to Kathmandu where they will arrive just in time to celebrate with the climbing team returning from Mt. Ama Dablam. MAOISTS REBELS DECLARE CEASEFIRE IN NEPAL

KATHMANDU, Sept 9 - NEPAL TIMES:Maoists rebels declared a ceasefire following several rounds of talks with leaders of the seven-party alliance and exchange of letters, alliance leaders said,

"The ceasefire followed a call for the Maoist official stand on the five essential points of pluralistic democracy and will have agreed to ceasefire for a minimum of 3 months".

This is good news for the autumn trek season and the people of Nepal. Hopefully this is a sign of fresh new start, and good things to come in this once peaceful paradise.

Travel within Nepal is considered safe from our perspective. Not once has a tourist been killed during the 7 years of conflict. There has never been rebel activity in the Khumbu (Everest region).  We have never felt at risk and feel safer there than on the streets of Vancouver today.
