AVALANCHE COURSE GEAR LIST    -  AVALANCHE COURSE Dates and Prices

GENERAL

Recommended equipment list for all students on all courses:    

  • Clothing for activity and standing in cold/snowy weather (no cotton).
  • Long underwear
  • Insulating layers
  • Outer layer (wind/waterproof)
  • Warm gloves, mitts, headband, and hat
  • Goggles and sunglasses
  • Small personal first-aid kit (sunscreen, lip-balm, moleskin, Band-Aids, medications, etc.)
  • Avalanche probe
  • Collapsible shovel
  • Avalanche beacon (457 khx or dual ONLY, 457 single frequency RECOMMENDED).
  • Pack (large enough for all equipment on day tours).
  • AST 2 students should bring a snow study kit (lens, screen, ruler, thermometer, compass, rutsch block cord).  

SKIING

  • Recommended equipment for students in courses where traveling on skis:

  • Boots (appropriate for conditions and activity).

  • Skis (with touring bindings and skins if appropriate). Poles  

SNO WBOARDING

  • Recommended equipment for students in courses where traveling on snowboards:

  • Split Board with touring bindings and skins

  • Boots

  • Collapsible poles  

             OR

  • Snowboard  (with means of attachment to pack).

  • Boots

  • Collapsible poles

  • Snowshoes  

SNOW SHOES

  • Snowshoes

  • Boots- they should be comfortable and warm.

  • Ski Poles

Lunch and a water bottle 

Peak Freak Expeditions have some articles available for rent, if we do not have what you need, we can refer you to one of our local equipment providers.

Whitewater Chalet:  Nelson B.C. $50.00CA per night for ARAC course participants. Minimum 3–nights apply. AST 1 students-2 night minimum.
